Planning Continues for our 50th Anniversary Reunion

Reservations have been coming in at a rapid pace for our big reunion commemorating the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Band of Gold. If you have been waiting to make your reunion reservations until arrangements have been made for guest rooms at our host hotel, please wait no longer! The Holiday Inn Harbourside has set aside a block of luxury rooms at a discount from their normal rates. Please visit their website at or call them at 727-595-9484 and mention the code "LBG"  for details. Our reunion committee has also searched for alternative accommodations at nearby hotels. The Hampton Inn is located directly across from Largo Central Park and the Largo Library at 100 East Bay Drive (866-272-4856). They offer rates starting at $159 per night. The Holiday Inn Express is a few miles away, but they offer lower rates. They are located at 13625 Icot Blvd. in Clearwater (855-799-6861). They offer rates starting at $111 per night. Both the Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express advise that reservations should be made using in order to receive the most favorable rates, since their rates are not exclusive to Band of Gold members.    

The Holiday Inn Harbourside on Indian Rocks Beach will be our main venue. The festivities begin on Friday evening, July 13, 2018 with a welcome reception at Jimmy Guana's, a restaurant/lounge at the Holiday Inn, which has indoor and outdoor gathering spots. Hors d'oeuvres will be provided, and there will be a cash bar. Saturday morning will start off with a visit to a special exhibit of our history at the Largo Library, featuring some memorabilia that has never been displayed before. After enjoying the Library exhibit we will cross East Bay Drive to Largo High School. We will tour the new facility and see how the hallowed halls have changed. Finally on Saturday evening our Golden Anniversary banquet will be held, complete with good food, memories, and fellowship. Suggested attire is casual Friday evening and Saturday morning, and cocktail/business casual for the Saturday evening banquet. There is ample time built into our schedule for you to get together with your best friends and classmates on your own. The price for the weekend events is $95.00 per person, which includes hors d'oeuvres on Friday evening, the banquet on Saturday, tax and gratuities. Profits from the reunion will be used to fund future Robert R. Cotter Memorial Scholarships. While the Holiday Inn Harbourside has a large banquet room, we may push the capacity should there be an extremely large turnout. We urge all of you to consider making reservations as soon as possible to ensure that you can be part of this very special event. Paid reservations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Don't risk getting shut out by waiting too late to make and pay for your reservations! We will accept credit card payments, but since the Alumni Association will be charged a fee for these payments, please consider paying by check. Every dollar we save can benefit a future scholarship recipient. 

To add to the nostalgia of our reunion weekend, we are bringing back the classic Band of Gold practice tee shirt! It will be the perfect thing to wear (along with dark blue shorts, of course) while touring the new Largo High School and admiring all of the memorabilia we have collected at the Largo Library. The price for these very special shirts is just $12 each. The shirts must be ordered in advance when registering online for the reunion, and can be picked up at the Holiday Inn Harbourside when the festivities start on Friday evening. Shirts will not be sold at the reunion or by mail; they must be ordered in advance. This is to control our costs by saving on postage and avoiding excess inventory, thereby giving us more funds for future scholarships.
